Stay with us at CFPA: Short Term Living Space

Welcome

Located in the heart of South Minneapolis, CFPA hosts opportunities for artists and community members to develop their personal and creative processes. CFPA hosts traveling artists and visitors to the neighborhood in an historic 2,600 sf apartment. Whether you need a space to rest, transition, or practice your art, we invite you to stay in one of our five private rooms.

Originally constructed in 1923 as a convent, CFPA now provides affordable office, rehearsal, and teaching space for local performance artists and other creative practitioners. Our AirBnB builds creative community by providing accessible residential space to those visiting Minneapolis on a short term basis. Below and across from the apartment, you’ll find three floors of private studio space used by creative practitioners — including bodyworkers, music teachers, dance companies, writers, and neighborhood organizations — as well as four active rehearsal studios and two performance spaces, which host numerous daily classes and rehearsals across a range of practices (from yoga to modern dance to experimental theater).

When you stay here, you’re making an investment in this community. The money that you spend on your room allows us to keep studio and rehearsal space affordable for our community, and invest in artists who present public performances and workshops in our space.

Curious to get involved during your stay? You’re invited to participate in drop-in classes, schedule sessions with our bodyworkers, or book rehearsal space of your own to develop your practice. A schedule of all public classes and more information about the practitioners hosted here can be found on our website.

As well as a spacious bedroom with a comfy bed, large desk and copious storage, guests will have shared access to a large kitchen, bathroom, and outdoor patio area with picnic tables next to the outdoor gardens.

Your stay will be overseen by a co-hosting team of creative professionals who work together to welcome you and create a comfortable environment for your stay.

Logistics + House Rules

House Rules

Building Hours: The apartment is available to you at any time. The rest of the CFPA building is closed to residing guests from 10pm to 8am.

Building Use: You’re welcome to look around the building during regular hours (8:00am-10:00pm), and we’re happy to give you a tour of the building upon request. Please be cognizant that tenants are working throughout the day, so be respectful when you’re moving around the building. You are welcome to request rental of any of our studio spaces via our website.

Parking and Pickups: Free parking can be easily found on surrounding residential streets, and is generally plentiful on Pleasant Ave. aside from school drop-off and pick-up times. During snow emergencies, parking will be prohibited on 38th St. Review Minneapolis’ website to check current snow emergencies. All Uber, Lyft, or taxi pick-ups should occur on 38th St.

Outdoor Areas: Especially in the warmer months, you’re more than welcome to use the common area picnic tables on the property. You’re also welcome to use the bike racks outside the building at your own risk — you’re advised to secure your bicycle with a U-Lock or discuss a place to lock your bike indoors.

Deliveries: If you’re staying with us for a longer period and want to receive packages, please contact us. CFPA is not responsible for collecting or managing packages for you. We do not provide USPS delivery during your stay.

Safety: You’ll be sharing this apartment with other guests, meetings and artist studios/offices. We expect everyone to respect each other’s space and boundaries. If you feel uncomfortable with anybody or anything in the space, please contact us immediately. We are on site every day. Please, while you’re staying with us, be a good neighbor and look out for one another. If a situation arises in the building or on the street, check your impulse to call the police. However, don’t hesitate to call 911 if there’s a life threatening circumstance, to you or to others. We strive to practice radical hospitality, and all are welcome here.

Apartment Safety and Care

The maintenance of this apartment is a collective responsibility. We hire someone to clean the space on a regular basis. CFPA staff attends to taking out the trash and recycling kept in the kitchen. We ask that you leave all common areas as you found them, and always pick up after yourself. Cleaning supplies can be found in multiple locations throughout the apartment for this purpose. You must not prop open any doors and make sure the apartment door locks behind you when entering and exiting. This is a private apartment in a public, open building.

Please take off your shoes when entering the apartment and leave them at the entry. The common areas are meant to be shared by all guests. The open space on the south side of the apartment is used periodically for CFPA led meetings or rehearsals. These are private events separate from common areas provided in your stay with us. Please be considerate of shared occupancy; keep phone conversations to your rooms, and wear headphones when necessary. If you accidentally stain bedding or the carpet, please inform us immediately so that we can mitigate any damage. A fee may be charged for excessive damage. The North/back exit to the apartment is only for emergency use and is not available as an ordinary exit.

Bathroom

The bathroom main door locks with a skeleton key. Please be considerate of time as others may want access. Used towels can be left in your room. We encourage you to reuse your towels multiple times in order to conserve water. If you need new towels, please contact CFPA. Please don’t leave any personal items on counters or sink.

Kitchen

Please claim one of the many open cupboards and leave your personal items there, rather than on the countertops. Additionally, each room can reserve area in the fridge. If you need to use more than your allotted space, please properly label your food. Please label all items in the freezer. You’re welcome to use all appliances on the counters (unless another guest has marked it as personal) and use dishes and kitchen supplies from all labeled cupboards. You may take food from the “Community Snacks” cupboard and beverages from the “Tea and Coffee” cupboard. You are responsible for doing your dishes, running and emptying the dishwasher, and cleaning out your debris from the sink after use. Sponges and dish soap should always be available for your use, and cleaning wipes are available for you to wipe down the microwave, stove top, etc. Please ensure that cooking pans and other large kitchen items are clean and ready for the next guest after each usage. We have trash, and recycling from the kitchen and composting that must be taken directly to the garbage area on the North of the building.

Laundry

There are no laundry machines available on site for use. There are two coin laundry facilities within 2-3 blocks from the apartment.
